DCA streak tracker: how to track your dollar-cost averaging streak
A DCA streak is the number of weeks (or months) in a row you bought on schedule. To track it, log every buy with its date and amount, count calendar weeks that have at least one buy, and reset only when a whole week passes with none. My Bitcoin streak is 64 weeks.
VOO is its own streak: 13 weeks, $300 every Tuesday, worth $2,706.03 as of Oct 27, 2026.
What a DCA streak is
Dollar-cost averaging means buying a fixed dollar amount on a fixed schedule, whatever the price. The streak is the count of periods in a row you kept that schedule. It measures the one part you control: showing up.
Why consistency beats timing
Timing needs two right calls: when to get out and when to get back in. A schedule needs none. The weekly data shows how noisy single weeks are: VOO closed higher than the week before in 496 of 841 weeks (59%) since Sep 13, 2010, and Bitcoin in 343 of 631 weeks (54.4%) since Sep 22, 2014. Any single week is close to a coin flip, so guessing which weeks to skip is a guess.
A plain schedule, run long enough: $100 of VOO every week from the week of Sep 6, 2010 to the week of Oct 19, 2026 is 842 buys, $84,200 put in, worth $306,898 at the close of the week of Oct 19, 2026 (adjusted close, dividends reinvested, no fees). How to track it
- Pick the rule before you start: what you buy, how much, which day. Example: $300 BTC every Friday.
- Log each buy the same day: date, asset, dollars, units. Your exchange export is the proof.
- Count calendar weeks (Monday to Sunday) with at least one buy. That number is the streak.
- Reset to zero only when a full week passes with no buy. A late or small buy inside the week still counts.
- Make it visible. Post it, or share a streak card that counts the weeks from your start date.
Example: my streak
I buy $300 of Bitcoin every Friday. That streak is 64 weeks. Every buy is posted on X. One honest detail: in Bitcoin week 27 (week of Feb 2, 2026) the Bitcoin buys landed on Wednesday and Thursday instead of Friday. The calendar-week rule still counts it, which is why the rule matters more than the day.
VOO is $300 every Tuesday. That streak is 13 weeks since Aug 4, 2026, worth $2,706.03 as of Oct 27, 2026.

FAQ
What counts as a week in a DCA streak?
Use calendar weeks, Monday to Sunday. A week counts if you made at least one planned buy in it. Two buys in one week do not cover a missed week.
Does a smaller buy break the streak?
No. The streak is about not skipping. Write down the real amount; a $20 week still counts as a week.
Should I count buys or weeks?
Weeks. My Bitcoin log has 68 buys in 64 weeks because some weeks had an extra buy. The Bitcoin streak is 64.
Is there a free DCA streak tracker?
